Phonics – linking sounds (phonemes) and the symbols that represent them (graphemes).

Vocabulary – thinking and clarifying words being read.

Inference – using evidence from the text to justify how the characters think, feel and act. 

Explain – how the choice of words and phrases chosen by the author affect the narrative.

Predict – develop an ability to say what might happen based on what they already know. 

Summarise – the main ideas in a given text.
